PHOENICIAN LAND OF CEDARS
Phoenicia has existed since 12th century B.C, originating from the east coast of the Mediterranean sea.
Phoenicia was the name of the country and people living and trading off the coast of Lebanon.
Their active trading dominated the Mediterranean, thus causing them to settle and develop coastal communities
throughout the region. One of the city-state formed by burgeon Phoenician population was Byblos.
Byblos was the hub of trade, a strong religious center, and flourishing culture as a capital.

Although the people of the region called themselves bani kan'an "Children of Canaan, the name Phoenicia became common because of the Greeks who called the people phoiniki. Ultimately, this term was borrowed from Ancient Egyptian Fnkhw "Syrians." Due to phonetic similarity, the Greek word for Phoenician was synonymous with the color purple or crimson, (phoînix), through its close association with the famous dye Tyrian purple. The dye was used in ancient textile trade, and highly desired. The Phoenicians became known as the "Purple People."

Recent DNA (Y chromosome) studies conducted by the National Geographic Magazine on the bones of ancient Phoenicians and living people from Lebanon and elsewhere in the Mediterranean have shown that the modern peoples carry the same ancient Phoenician genetic material.

Religious myths
Quoting the bible, coan or torah, Arabs are the children of Ismael, son of Abraham. Jews are the children of Isaac, son of Abraham.

Abraham himself was son of Terah, son of Nahor, son Arpachshad, son of Shem, son of Noah.

And Phoenicians are children of Canaan, son of Ham, son of Noah

Well that should make us cousins with the arabs! =)

Lebanon??
LBNN is more ancient than Phoenicia. The word comes from what is thought tobe several Semitic roots. Some believe that it means white or close to the word yogurt or that itmeans incense of the gods from the word Luban.

The ancients thought that the mountains were the abode of the gods. So, Baal Lebanon -- the god ofthe mountain of Lebanon and/or that the mountains were gods in a way. Ugaritic poetry for very ancient times speaks of the wines of Lebanon:"Day long they pour the wine,... must-wine, fit for rulers.Wine, sweet and abundant,Select wine...The choice wine of Lebanon,Most nurtured by El."

In addition to that, we know that in Phoenician, LB means heart and NhN means us; NN descendant; & N'N clan. So, in addition to LBNN meaning whiteand/or incense, the abode of the gods or a god, it could also mean "heart, our" -- "our heart" -- "heart (of the) descendent" or "heart (of the) clan".

Consequently, the symbolism and meaning is quite vast and sublime for theword LBNN: Pure white, incense, abode of the gods, our heart, heart of thedescendents, and/or heart of the clan. I am certain that very few Lebanese are aware of this fact.

Conclusion
Lebanon is to be a neutral cosmopolitan (multi-ethnical) state that includes in primary Phoenicians then Arabs, Armenians, Greeks, Kurds, Persians, Chaldeans, Aramaeans, Jews...

I will not turn bring politics to this awsome website, but if any is convinsed and interested into phoenicians, plz check out http://www.phoenicianparty.org

cheers,
