Tebnine Castle - Altitude 850 meters - Inhabitants 400

How to get there?

Take the highway to the south. In Tyre, you should take the road leading to Qana. Drive through Hanouay, Qana, Hariss and Aita Jabal before reaching Tebnine after 40 min drive.

The 2,000 sq m site is now in ruins and abandoned. The former medieval town of Torn was an outpost during the Crusaders. The Fortress of Thorns or Tebnine was built in 1104 by Hughes Saint-Omer to defend the region. In 1187, it fell to Salah ad Din but was taken back by the Franks in 1229. During the 18th century, Daher el Omar, Pasha of Acre restored it. Up on the hilltop, there is a breathtaking view reminding some of Toscana's hinterland.
