This Sunday promises to once again sunny and dry, so join us for a hike from Afqa to the village of Hrajel. Our hike will begin at the Afqa grotto. At this time of the year the gushing waterfall is an incredible sight!
We will hike on to the Adonis Temple ruins then ascend 250m to the Lassa plateau below the Qornet el Chouar mountain. Along the way, we will take a break for a picnic lunch in the shade. Then continue for 8km to Bhassis where if you wish, you can stop hiking and take a break. The rest of us will continue toward Qalaat Badra then along a trail towards the village of Hrajel.
THE LEGEND OF ADONIS: The Afqa spring is the main source of the Nahr Ibrahim River , otherwise known as the Adonis River. According to local legend, an ancient god became so jealous of Adonis' beauty that he transformed himself into a wild boar and fatally gored the handsome young man. As Adonis lay dying in the arms of Aphrodite, drops of blood spilled out onto an anemone flower and stained it crimson red. Each year, when the run off from the Lebanese mountains turns the river red, it is said to be the blood of Adonis !!!!!
ABOUT CYCLAMEN: Our philosophy is to increase awareness of Lebanon's natural and cultural heritage through non-profit activities which include hikes and treks in rural regions. We always aim to hire local guides for the hikes and encourage visitors to purchase food locally.

-What to bring? ID or passport, hiking footwear, waterproof jacket, cap, sun cream, sunglasses, healthy snacks and 1 1/2 of water.
