Cyclamen is organizing this Saturday an excursion to the Palm Island reserve to show the importance of conservation. The Palm Islands Nature Reserve comprises three uninhabited Mediterranean islands and 500m of surrounding sea located approximately 5.5 km northwest of Tripoli.

The three islands, Sanani, Ramkine and Palm Island, are Lebanon's only true islands.

Their marine ecosystem is significant. They are one of the few remaining breeding grounds for the endangered Loggerhead Turtle and also a resting place for migratory birds, including many rare and endangered species.
 
After arriving by boat from Al Mina, we will walk along the Nature Reserve trail is an easy and enjoyable one. Visitors can explore the remains of an old salt flat, or salina, that dates back to the early 20th century, there are also the remains of an old Crusader Church, as well as bathing and washing pools from the 13th century. There is also the remains of a freshwater well that was excavated during Crusader times. The islands are rich in beach flora and medicinal plants, and their coastal waters have an abundance of fish, sea sponges, and other sea life. Take your bathing suits with you as parts of the reserve are open for swimming.

18h00: Estimated being back at Beirut.

Booking deadline: Thursday 07th of August 2008, 05h00 p.m, allowing us enough time to get the legal permission to visit the Island.

Price per person: 17 and up, 28 US$; 12 to 16 persons 38US$
Price includes: Transportation, tour leader, local guide, boat ride & insurance.
Does not include: Life jacket, breakfast and lunch.
Recommended attire: Hat, sun block,  swimsuit, towels, backpack, water, sun glasses, snack, small plastic trash bag & identity card.
