1. Niha Ferzol Hike

The word ‘Niha’ means a place for rest. The village used to be Baalbeck Roman emperor’s summer place.

It is known for its citadels dated back to the Roman Empire, some even further back to the Byzantine and Phoenician era. The citadels are grand, with an importance as big as Baalbeck’s but on a smaller scale.

Before starting the hike, we will visit some villager’s home in Niha where homemade organic produce such as kishk, pickles, syrups, vinegar are old. It is our mission to acquire such healthy products and support the villagers.

We will start our hike from Niha all together and visit the lower temple, which is well preserved.

From there we will be divided into two levels:

Level 6 will take an uphill trail to the cross at the top of the cliff. Wonderful views of the Bekaa Valley can be seen from up there. Then the trail will continue downwards towards Ferzol.
Level 3 will walk a bit uphill until they reach the upper temple, which is still upright but in very good condition. Then the trail becomes downhill all the way to Ferzol.

In Ferzol, we will go to Al-Habis to see ancient ruins and caves. These are ruins of a prehistoric empire that was carved into the mountain, famous for allegedly housing all the gold treasures of that empire.  On the other side, we will see the king’s chair, wine presses, and many historical remnants from the Canaanite, Phoenician, and Roman era.

We will have lunch in the nature in Ferzol before heading back home. Please bring you own lunch with you

2. Ehden Weekend

Ehden forest (Horsh Ehden) is one of the most diversified ecosystems of Lebanon. This picturesque natural reserve reveals its beauty mostly in autumn, where colors are as diversified as the numerous kinds of trees!
Horsh Ehden Nature Reserve is rich in biodiversity where more than one thousand kind of trees and plants have been recorded, accounting for nearly 40% of the overall plant species in Lebanon. It is quite impressive that this number is recorded only inside the reserve which represents less than 0.1% of the total area of Lebanon.
Our weekend program will be as follows:
Saturday
Once we arrive, we will make a very special tour of Ehden town, you will see a lot of very important sites, such as Al Midan and Youssef Beyk Karam!
We will then enjoy a nice evening and dinner. You will spend the night in a very nice hotel at the entrance of the reserve. Each room is furnished, heated, and has its own private washroom.
Sunday
We will wake up very early for a sunrise hike:
It will be one moderate hike that starts from the hotel going up to the top of the reserve to reach the hut of Btellaya (2000m). If fog is absent, we can enjoy a breathtaking view over the forest beneath, and discover the round shaped juniper trees watching over the forest.
We will then come back to the hotel to enjoy a delicious homemade breakfast while waiting for the other group to arrive from Beirut.
Once they arrive, we will have 3 levels of hikes:
LEVEL 3 will start near Nabaa Jouit, at the lowest entrance of the reserve. The hike breaks through a pine forest from which we will reach an areas rich with a huge variety of rare trees such as the wild apple, different kinds of deciduous and evergreen oaks, as well as the sumptuous yellow-leafed maple trees. Then the forest becomes mixed with conifers including the majestic cedar and fir which takes of this forest as its most southern limit. The trail ends up at about 1750m in the middle of the cedar forest. We will have all the time to take pictures, contemplate the view and enjoy the beautiful ambience

LEVEL 5 will take the same trail as level 3; however the hiking will be on a faster rhythm. We will continue to the top of the reserve to reach the hut of Btellaya (2000m). If fog is absent, we can enjoy a breathtaking view over the forest beneath, and discover the round shaped juniper trees watching over the forest.

LEVEL 6 This level will be done only if the weather is clear without any fog.  The trail will take you to the peak of the mountain where you will be able to rest in Abou Yousef’s house.  You will see the cave called “Beb el Hawa”. The path will continue to the top of the jurd and further away to Saidet el Hosn.

Due to the topography of the ground, you are bound to ascend and descend some slopes, so the hike will be a Level 4 hike for the whole group.
You will start the hike from the electricity company in Kousba.  There will be a long walk uphill, mostly a stony staircase, until you reach Deir Hamatoura. This abbey is the “Guardian of the City”.  It is built in the rocks overlooking great views.
From there, you will continue along the cliff.  The track is not hard, but you will need to be careful.  You will get the feeling of being on top of the world!
This track will lead you to the river bank, where you can have a nice stop by the water.  On your way, you will see many abandoned old houses that reveal traces of previous civilizations.  Lunch will be in the vicinity of one of these houses.

5. Zeaitre Hike

We will be visiting a small but remarkably beautiful village, Zeaitre is a special village located in Ftouh Keserwan. The name is derived from “Berkit Zeaiter” of the lake of Zeaiter that was located in the village. There is also another explanation behind the name which is the abundance of wild “Zaatar” that can be found in the surrounding nature of the village

It is the hometown of Vamos Todos founder, Mark Aoun, Zeaitre is reachable through “Maaysrah” village from the west, if you’re coming from “Beirut” and from “Jouret Bedran” if you’re coming from “Keserwan”. The fact that the village stands on 750m above sea level and is located at only 42km away from Beirut, makes it an all-year destination. t is also the hometown of Andre and Jean Saade, the famous Lebanese wrestlers

The municipality has done a beautiful job there to maintain the eco-system of the village where it worked hard on creating a hiking trail and maintained the archeological sited of the village

The new municipal body would like to welcome and introduce you to the eco-tourism opportunities available in Zeaitre. The hike organized by the Municipality aims at introducing the archeological sites in the village. It will run along old oak trees that are between 300 and 900 years old, ancient churches, Roman ruins and old Ottoman trails that used to link villages.

This small village includes more than 13 km of trails and the Municipality will be working on the restoration and preparation of more trails. Some are already set and there will be an inauguration for the eco-tourism project in Zeaitre. Indeed, you will be quite surprised to see so many Ecotourism sites and nature beauty in such a small village.

We will start our day by having a breakfast prepared by local people.

Then we will start our hike which will be divided into two levels

We will start all together on an amazing trail, by checking an old cave. Then we will be hosted by VT founder, Mark Aoun, in his own house for fresh fruits and coffee break. In his place, you will get to see an old vaulted basement that is 150 years old & a restored typical old Lebanese house with traditional wooden ceiling.

Level 6 will comprise around 200m of uphill and downhill.

Level 3 will be an easier trail leading to the the Roman Stairs.

Both levels will join again at the old church which is more than 300 years old for lunch.

Baakline, an ideal destination for hikers and nature lover as it is located in the beautiful area of Shouf where outstanding forests and well preserved nature can be seen.

Baakline is known for its unique national library containing a considerable number of information sources dating back to the Lebanese Republic history. The building was constructed in 1897 during the Ottoman Empire. It has been restored and inaugurated as a public library in 1987.

The National Library in Baakline is a living testimony to the people's will to be free and grow to their rightful potential.  Ironically, this current intellectual monument is housed in the same building, once called the Grand Serail, which jailed the minds and souls of countless creative Lebanese under the Ottoman rule. The Serail used to serve as the Headquarters for the Ottoman Governor.
After such a nice cultural visit, we will start our hike.
Our hike will be among trees and dense forests, until we reach the river. Along the way, we will see a natural pot-hole in the ground called “Houwwet Raidan”.  It is 70 meters deep, with a very wide diameter.

8. Kabb Elias Hike & Wine Tasting

Kab Elias is a town in the Bekaa valley rich in historical sites and it is 15 kilometers away from Zahle.

Our hike today will be complemented by an exquisite wine tasting in Chateau Heritage in which Mrs. Carole Touma and Mr Dargham Touma, the owners of the winery and loyal friends of Vamos Todos will make us a tour and give us all the needed info. They will first share with us some new trails in the village in which they live all year long, Kab-Elias.

It is important to note here that Mr. Dargham is the ex-president of Kab Elias and he showed showing great passion for his village and he still is taking part in the municipality. As to the cognac tasting, it will occur directly from the cave. Your taste buds will go crazy after tasting high quality products right from the winery. We will then have a mouthwatering traditional lunch prepared by the workers of the winery with love.

Our hike will be one easy level. Yet, if you wish to skip the hike, you can go directly join the group directly to “La Maison de Chouchane” a Bed & Breakfast stay-in located inside the Domaine which is a beautiful historical site in which you can enjoy nature serenity and beauty.

The term Chouchane is an old term that refers to the Irises and Lilies that grow on the Domaine. We’ll be able to enjoy large gardens and enjoy the shades of old trees that have been there for more than 400 years. This green foliage is irrigated by the waters of Kab Elias which pass by the gardens of the Domaine.

During our hike (8km) you will visit the most famous is the Nabatean Tomb, a façade high up on the cliff.  It is also known as Haydara or the Temple of the Sun.
Another important historical landmark is the ruined wall, originally a Roman guard-tower that was rebuilt in Crusader times, taken over by the Emir of Baskinta back in those days, and then destroyed by the Sultan of the Bekaa. Around 1625, Emir Fakhir El Dine made it into a Druze palace until it was ruined by Darwiche Pacha of Damas in 1822.

Arak Touma is located right next to the Domaine, thus, visitors are always welcome to come and taste the Lebanese Bekaa arak in a remarkably fascinating atmosphere

10. Deir el Ahmar Hike & Wine Tasting

As usual, our journeys to Bekaa are always amazing. This time, we will be visiting the famous town of “Deir al Ahmar”, located in the Baalbeck district.

There are many explanations behind the name “Deir al Ahmar”. But due to the Maronite population of the village, locals believe that the name derives from the Syriac, “Deir Ohmor”, meaning “Monastery of the Lord's Brother”.

Our journey will be a melting pot of spiritual excursion, beautiful landscapes & pallet fulfillment

We will start our day by visiting the renowned miraculous “Lady of Beshwat” or “Saydet Beshwat” monastery & sanctuary. “Saydet Beshwat” became a well-known destination for people from different religions after divine miracles took place in the sanctuary.

The hike will be divided into 2 levels: Level 3 (7km) & Level 5 (12km)
We will start the walk all together directly after the sanctuary visit, on a wonderful trail overlooking the whole plain area of Bekaa as well as an exceptional view of the 3 highest peaks in Lebanon: Qornet al Sawda, Jabal al Shaikh & Sannine.

The trail will lead us to a fence built in the shape of a rosary expected to be the largest illuminated rosary in the world. The rosary can be seen from the sky and will serve as a boost for religious tourism in Lebanon and the area.

After a thorough visit of the rosary, we will continue to a small boutique winery called “Cave Rouge“ where you will have the chance to taste a very special wine variety.
The two levels will be separated right after the winery visit. Level 3 will head to the core of the village, specifically to WADA - Women’s Association of Deir al Ahmar
Level 5 will continue on a longer trail in the plains of the village where beautiful views can be witnessed.

Both levels will meet in WADA where a traditional lunch will be prepared by local women.
