DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT:

Batroumine is a small Greek Orthodox village located in north Lebanon over the El-Koura district hills south east of Tripoli; there you can enjoy wonderful beaches and resorts on the beautiful Mediterranean coast. The village is known for olives, oil, soap, grapes, wine, arak (Ouzo), figs and blueberries production. It has a long history which is seen through the fine examples of traditional Lebanese houses located in the village center. Observation of the preserved architecture shows that the village has roots in the Byzantine period; such roots are strongly noted in the architecture of the churches.
Batroumine or "Bayt Roumine" means the house of the Nobles in syriac language, or the Roman Base. "Roumine" was a Roman princess who lived in this village more than 1500 years ago.
HIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy, 4 to 6 for intermediate, 7 to 9 for strenuous.
Batoumine is a wonderful place for hiking; our hike will be divided into 2 levels:
Level 3 (5 km) will be an easy and beautiful hike. The trail will take you between the olives trees from Barsa til Batroumine. From there views of Koura region can be also seen; you will visit the ruins and learn about the Byzantine period with a local guide. Then you will take the bus to the Monastery of St. Jacob (Deir Mar Yaacoub) in Deddeh; it is historical, overlooking the best view of the coast. Your will see the Palm Islands, and the best section of the Lebanese coast.
Level 5 is a beautiful and amazing walking trail of 10 KM. You will start with level 3 and continue from Batroumine along a straight trail leading to an olives tree, then to the Monastery of St. Jacob.
Ruins of the old village were found under the modern Batroumine; around 40 stone houses connected with paved roads going back to the Byzantine era. The lunch will be nearly for both Levels.
The hidden treasures and beauty of Lebanon are yet to be unveiled.

DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT:

Anjar is completely different from any other archaeological site you will visit in Lebanon. In other historical sites in the country, different epochs and civilizations are superimposed one on top of each other. Anjar is exclusively one period, the Umayyad.

Formerly known as Gerrha, a stronghold built by Umayyad Caliph Al-Walid ibn Abdel Malek in the 8th century, the site was later abandoned, leaving a number of well-preserved ruins. The present-day name derives from Arabic Ayn Gerrha, or "source of Gerrha".

Anjar was resettled in 1939 with several thousand Armenian refugees from the Musa Dagh area of Turkey.

HIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy, 4 to 6 for intermediate, 7 to 9 for strenuous.
Level 3 is a beautiful and an amazing walking trail of just 6 KM. You will all begin visiting the ruins and learn about the Umayyad period with a local guide, continue along a trail leading to the river, then to Kfar Zabad.
Kfar Zabad wetland (Nature Reserve) is a small marshland on the level plain of the Bekaa Valley, which is on the main migration route for African-Eurasian water birds. Kfar Zabad Marshlands were declared as “Hima” (community based protected area). The reserve team will be there to friendly host you and present the reserve to you. You will see Ain Anjar. The scenery is great!
The scenery changes from this stage. You will pass through a dense forest of different kinds of trees, giving the impression of being in a jungle. The track will take you to a beautiful lake, it’s quiet and you will have lunch in this beautiful area, where you can take a lot of unforgettable pictures.
Level 4 (10 Km Approx.) will continue after lunch an straight trail to the Dalhamiye overlooking the area. It is a great place to end the hike.
Level 5 (14 Km Approx.) will have an extra uphill trail to the hills overlooking the area. It is a great place.

The hidden treasures and beauty of Lebanon are yet to be unveiled.
